A New Voice for the 117th Assembly District
LINE ITEM VETO
PRIMARY POINTS:
-
Line Item Veto must be a power granted to the Assembly and State Senate.
DETAILED SOLUTIONS:
The following are a combination of my ideas and solutions through research into Line Item Veto within the State of New York and conversations with average citizens of the 117th Assembly District.
The ideas and solutions discussed here are not final and will always be fluid and will change with the needs of the people of this district before the needs and wants of political parties.
Please feel free to add your insight via the SOLUTIONS DISCUSSION below.
New York is one of 44 states that grants their Governor the power of Line-Item Veto. This gives the Governor the power to exclude portions of legislation that reaches his or her desk. This power needs to be maintained in order to give the Governor the necessary power over the Legislative branch of government in the State of New York; ensuring that the Governor has the power to remove items from bills that do not belong in the bill as riders in order to meet political agendas over the need of the people. This power needs to be extended to the Assembly and Senate as well in order to allow the reviewing body to omit "riders" or unnecessary parts of the legislation being voted on.
